Kathryn Borel was born in 1979 in Toronto, the daughter of a hotelier.
After several years, she became the older sister to Nico, who was named after the family cat. She spent her early years living in hotels in Paris, Bermuda, Dallas, and New Jersey, finally settling in Quebec City.
In 2002 she moved to Toronto to follow a man. The relationship ended. She continues to live in Toronto where she works at the Canadian Broadcasting Company. She has written food and wine reviews for radio and print. Her journalism includes a column which ran in the National Post under the title "Indignities." Corked is her first book.
Note: I checked the Amazon reviews (as it has not come out yet) and found that all of the reviewers disliked the book, buyer beware. Some of the quotes were:
-- The book is, in a word, abominable.
-- Overall, I'd skip. It's not engaging in book form and needs more humorous moments. I didn't cry nor laugh during the entire book so it's a pass. And many passages I had to reread to figure out who are talking.
-- Kathryn and her father are not people I would EVER want to know in person, and I certainly wouldn't want to read her innermost thoughts and go along with them on a two-week journey where they continue to act like, well, assholes. I cannot imagine how this book got past a literary agent and is scheduled to be published, but hopefully the publisher will see the reviews here and save themselves the money and some trees by not actually publishing this crap. Thanks to Hachette for this Giveaway.
